Because Patrol Officers need to be available to respond immediately to public calls for service, the Investigative Services Division assists Patrol in following up on cases that are beyond the scope for the uniformed officer.
The detectives are called out to the scene of serious crimes to perform advanced and detailed investigations. The detectives receive specialized training and use their analytical skills to solve crimes and detect trends.
Investigative Services personnel are also assigned to work as members of specialized task forces. Officers assigned to drug, gang, or other task forces work with officers from other jurisdictions and agencies to address crime which is regional in its scope. During the course of their investigations and operations, members of the task forces are often successful in both removing the criminals from the street, and in seizing the spoils of crime. A seizure of money, drugs, cars, weapons and other property from criminals serves the common good of the citizens of Manassas Park. Officers assigned to task forces are on call 24 hours a day
