The Patrol Services Division consists of teams of officers and support personnel whose function is to provide around-the-clock police services to the City of Manassas Park and provide the first line of protection in the Homeland Security Effort.
Canine Patrol (K-9) supports police patrol and investigative functions. Canine teams, consisting of a handler and dog, patrol assigned areas on foot or in vehicles and provide drug intervention and detection support. When not immediately engaged in canine-related activity, the team carries out the regular duties of patrol officers. When not on duty, the dog lives with the handler and becomes a part of his/her family.
Traffic Services, an important component in ensuring the safety of the public, is provided by all members of the Patrol Division, as offenses are observed. The placement of speed detection units at strategic locations in the city provides direct, visual feedback to city drivers of their speed. The department also implements targeted enforcement efforts in residential, commercial, and school zones.
Back-to-School bus stop safety patrols, alcohol and DUI enforcement, seatbelt safety campaigns, and pedestrian/bicycle safety enforcement are all part of the national and regional traffic enforcement programs in which the department participates to enhance public safety.
