The City of Manassas Park announced Mario Lugo as the new Chief of Police.
On Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at the Governing Body meeting, Mayor Jeanette Rishell and city council members voted unanimously to appoint Captain Mario Lugo, from within the ranks, to lead the city’s police department.
Chief Lugo began his career with Manassas Park in 2000 after serving 2 years with the Arlington County Sheriff’s Office. During his 19-year tenure with the Manassas Park Police Department, Chief Lugo has served in various roles, including Uniform Patrol, Investigations, K9, Supervision, and has risen through the ranks to Assistant Chief in charge of Professional Standards.
Chief Lugo is a graduate of both the FBI National Academy (session 263) and the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police’s Professional Executive Leadership School (session 44).
Chief Lugo has deep ties in our city; he spent part of his childhood here and graduated from Manassas Park High School. His excellent relationship with our community is an asset to our organization that will help ensure our police department maintains strong relations with community residents. Chief Lugo looks forward to serving the community and ensuring the safety of everyone in our city.
